Google Ads vs Meta Ads: Where Should Your Budget Go?

Google catches people who are already searching. Meta reaches people before they search. Here is how to decide, with examples.

Most businesses with a limited marketing budget eventually face the question: should we spend on Google Ads or on Facebook and Instagram ads? The answer depends on how your customers decide to buy.

The fundamental difference

  • Google Ads captures demand. Someone searches "AC repair near me" or "CBSE school admission Purnea". They already want something. Your ad appears at that moment.
  • Meta Ads creates demand. Someone scrolls Instagram. They were not looking for you, but your ad catches their interest based on their profile and behaviour.

When Google Ads works best

  • Urgent needs: repairs, emergency services, medical appointments.
  • High-intent searches: "buy", "price", "near me", "best".
  • B2B services that buyers search for when they have a requirement.
  • Products or services people already know they need.

When Meta Ads works best

  • Visual products: fashion, food, home decor, real estate.
  • New products or services people do not search for yet.
  • Events, offers and limited-time promotions.
  • Admissions campaigns targeting parents in specific areas.
  • Building brand awareness in a city or region.

Comparing costs

Google Ads clicks are often more expensive because searchers have strong intent. Meta clicks are usually cheaper, but the audience is earlier in the buying journey. What matters is not the cost per click but the cost per qualified lead and ultimately the cost per customer. Track these for both platforms.

Examples

A dental clinic in Patna

Google Ads for "dentist near me" and "root canal cost Patna" bring patients with an immediate need. Meta Ads can promote a teeth-whitening offer to local adults. Most budget goes to Google, with a smaller share on Meta.

A school during admission season

Meta Ads targeting parents in nearby areas build awareness and drive enquiries. Google Ads capture parents actively searching for schools. Both work together.

A B2B manufacturer

Google Ads on specific product searches, plus LinkedIn for decision-makers. Meta plays a smaller role.

Our recommendation for most small businesses

  1. Start with Google Ads on your highest-intent keywords if people search for what you sell.
  2. Add Meta Ads for remarketing: show ads to people who visited your website but did not enquire.
  3. Test Meta prospecting campaigns with strong creatives and a clear offer.
  4. Track calls, WhatsApp clicks and form leads on both platforms, then move budget to what works.

Do not skip conversion tracking

Without tracking, you are guessing. Set up conversion tracking for calls, form submissions and WhatsApp clicks before spending money.
