More than three out of four Indian internet users browse on a phone first, not a laptop. If a visitor lands on your site from a Google search or a WhatsApp share and has to pinch-zoom to read your prices, most of them will leave within seconds -- and they won't come back to try the desktop version.
A mobile-friendly website isn't about squeezing your desktop layout onto a smaller screen. It means your menu is thumb-reachable, your "Call Now" or "WhatsApp Us" buttons are visible without scrolling, your images load quickly on an average 4G connection, and your forms are easy to fill in with one hand.
There's also a ranking reason to care. Google indexes and ranks websites primarily based on their mobile version, a practice called mobile-first indexing. A site that looks great on desktop but is broken on mobile will rank worse for everyone, even people searching from a laptop.
For a local business -- a clinic, a coaching centre, a retail shop, a manufacturer -- the phone is very often how a first-time customer finds you, checks your address, or decides whether to call. A slow or broken mobile experience at that exact moment is a lost customer, not just a bad review.
If you're not sure how your current site performs on mobile, the fastest gut-check is to open it on your own phone using mobile data (not WiFi) and time how long it takes to load. If it takes more than three or four seconds, that delay is costing you enquiries every single day.
